1924 Kane Directory

28 Dec

One of the neatest things I discovered a few years back in the Kane, PA library was a series of city directories. At the time I was exploring my wife’s ancestors with the last names of BURROWS, CLARK, DIPPO, HOKE, and HOUSLER. Here are my notes on people with those last names that I discovered in the 1924 Kane Directory.

Many of the business references (emp Pl G Co) means that person worked at that business but I do NOT know what most of those abbreviations stand for.  (The example here is Plate Glass Co., but that’s all I know for these.)

“h” = home at …          “bds” = has a bed at …

Information appears in this order:

page #, last name, first name, (wife) occupation, address

69-Clark, Chas S (Ella S.), cutting foreman, AmWGCo, h115 Clay

69-Clark, Clyde (Mabel) emp AmWGCo, h654 Dawson

69-Clark, Earl, emp Sakura, bds 511 Welsh

69-Clark, Emma, student, bds 14 Bottle

69-Clark, Fred L. (Mabel) clerk, h120 Hacker

69-Clark, Geo (Pearl) lab, bds 632 Dawson

69-Clark, Wm F (Ora) emp Silver Co., h 607 Park Av

100-Hoke, John (Florence) emp AmWGCo, h 508 (up) Hacker

There were sections for outlying towns that included some of the family names I was researching as well:

[Durant/James City Directory]

217-Clark, C L, leaseman

[Mt. Jewett Directory]

242-Clark, Mrs. Carrie, hk’pr, bds Kistler Ave

242-Clark, Harold, emp tan’ry, bds Kistler Ave

242-Clark, W B, sta fireman, h Kistler Ave

There were no entries for Burrows, Dippo, or Housler.
