MIXED GENES is about genealogy, sort of. Each blog post will share a tidbit of research I have discovered. Not that I have always done every single bit of legwork myself, but I’ll note my sources and give credit where credit is due.

I will try to include pictures, stories, and that kind of thing when I have one. I know of one future entry that highlights a song and the story behind it. Sometimes a posting will be of a picture of someone or something that I haven’t figured out. Maybe someone out there recognizes a place or a person in the photo. That’ll help us all.

Of course, genealogy is pretty much researched about your own family and this will only deviate occasionally from my family (MIX) or my wife’s family (HOUSLER).

Some of the surnames in my family are/were:
Bailey, Baxter, Haynes, Meacham, Mix, Overturf, Peterson, Thurber, and Turner (along with A LOT more!)

Some of the surnames in my wife’s family are/were:
Bennett, Edson, Housler, Howell, Whittemore, and Willey (and there are many more!)

Because of different times when I have helped others, I will occasionally share sidenotes about someone else’s story that I’ve helped with.

I have done quite a bit of work with the Potter and McKean County areas in Pennsylvania. So sometimes those stories might find their way into a posting.

And finally, as I have pastored and taught in different areas, I have also come across a lot of material that I’m not sure what to do with, so I’ll share some of those accidental learnings once in a while.

By the way, this blog originally started on blogger, and eventually all of the information originally posted there, will find itself here. For a while (2012), you shouldbe able to still access that original Mixed Genes blog at
